FAQs
Over time moss, algae, lichen and organic growth can build up on a roof. Left untreated, this moss can loosen tiles as it expands and contracts with weather changes, potentially leading to damage and gutter blockages. Professionally removing this growth improves your home’s appearance and helps protect the integrity of your roof.
Our roof cleaning process is determined at the quotation stage. This will either involve using a high heat, low pressure steam machine or extendable brushing and scraping tools. All of this is done from scaffolding towers or access equipment. We then apply a HSE approved biocide treatment to kill the spores and roots of moss, algae and mould left in the cracks and crevices. We work carefully to protect surrounding property and landscaping during the clean.
The cost varies depending on roof size, access, level of moss growth and other site-specific conditions. We provide personalised quotes so you know exactly what you’ll pay before any work begins. Contact us for a tailored estimate. With the treatment, prices often range from £750 to £1,200, as we base the price on the surface area, often around £10 per square meter depending on the level of build up.
A biocide is a specialised treatment applied after moss removal to kill the spores and roots of moss, algae, and mould. Without this application, moss and organic growth can return quickly. The biocide helps prevent regrowth and keeps the roof cleaner for longer.
No. At Porter’s Roof Cleaning, we use gentle, soft-washing techniques and never walk on the roof surface to avoid damaging fragile tiles. Our team is trained and equipped to work safely at height, with fall protection, ensuring your roof is cleaned without harm.
Absolutely. We are City & Guilds trained professional soft wash technicians, PASMA tower trained for working at height, and hold public liability insurance to give you peace of mind.
You don’t usually need to be present as long as we have clear access to your roof and garden area. If there are access or safety concerns, our team will contact you to discuss arrangements.
The length of a roof clean depends on the size and condition of the roof. A typical clean is often completed within a day, but larger roofs or those with heavy moss growth may take a bit longer.
Yes, organic growth like moss can return over time due to weather, shade, and neighbouring vegetation. That’s why we recommend a biocide treatment after cleaning — it kills spores at the root to slow regrowth significantly. We offer a 3 year guarantee with our treatments.
